Top tips on what to write in a card for a sick child
Avoid ‘get well’ messages
Whilst this can sometimes be appropriate, the reality is that we don’t always know the extent or prognosis of a child’s illness, so we’d recommend avoiding these types of phrases.
Be sincere
Spending time in hospital or at home whilst unwell can be lonely so let them know you’re thinking of them.
Focus on the child rather than their illness
Choose uplifting messages such as; you should be proud of yourself, you’re one tough cookie or you’re the coolest ever.
Make them laugh
We’ve all heard the phrase ‘laughter is the best medicine’, whilst not technically true a good giggle can lighten the load, even the cheesiest of jokes are grate. (See what we did there?)
Use their favourite characters or famous people
Personalise your message by using quotes or song lyrics for the ultimate touch. Disney fan? How about this classic from Winnie the Pooh? “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Or Sending to a swiftie? Let them know they’re fearless!
